About

Hand crafted in Chicago by Luthier Tim Seisser, Lowdown Bass Guitars are truly one of a kind. Not only is Tim an accomplished builder & repair tech, he has been playing bass professionally for over 20 years. Tim is recognized as an award winning soloist as well as an accomplished songwriter, playing jazz standards to progressive rock and everything in between. His musical intuition inspires his work on each instrument he builds. You can find Tim playing with his trio project TS3, Chicago based big-band New Nostalgia and internationally touring prog-rockers District 97. He’s been called by his peers “One of the nastiest residents of the low end you will ever hear”.

Tim’s Personal Axe: Custom Lowdown 6 string, swamp ash body w/zebrawood top, wenge neck, latis fretboard. Nordstrand dual coil pickups & nordstrand preamp.

Tim’s experience as a repair technician has allowed him to work on a wide variety of guitar/bass models from nearly all major manufacturers. Tim has built his skillset from basic setups and instrument maintenance to more complex work such as re-frets & vintage restoration work. So whether you’re a student, gigging musician or collector, lowdown’s repair shop has you covered.

Lowdown’s perspective on sustainability very important to Tim. As much as he can, he uses locally sourced wood for his builds. Hand selecting the majority of the wood with an emphasis on domestic species allows lowdown to be as sustainable as it can be. Tim prides himself on his repurposing techniques for wood scrap & cutoffs. He puts as much scrap as he can into future builds. You might have noticed his inlays and puzzle-piece styles… those are all a beautiful effort in sustainability by repurposing as much scrap as possible!
